What is pool coping, and do I actually need it?
Pool coping is the finished edge that runs along the top of your pool wall — the piece that caps the bond beam, gives your pool a clean look, and protects the shell from water damage. Without it, water gets behind the tiles, the edge chips, and it looks unfinished. A good coping also gives swimmers something to grip and makes the whole area safer underfoot.
Do you work with all paver and tile types?
Yes — and that’s genuinely one of our strengths. We work with porcelain, travertine, bluestone, basalt, sandstone, granite, marble, limestone, slate, terracotta, terrazzo, quartz, glass tiles, concrete pavers, brick pavers, cobblestone, anti-slip porphyry and more. If you already have a tile or paver you love, bring it to us and we’ll apply the coping profile to it.
Why have copings made custom when pre-made ones are available?
Pre-made copings come in very few materials, sizes, and just a handful of profiles. If your pool is standard and your tastes are standard, that’s fine. But if you want your coping to match the porcelain already on your pool floor, or you need a non-standard width, or you want a profile that nobody sells off the shelf — custom is the only way. More choices, more control, better result. That’s why pro tilers and architects come to us rather than buying pre-made.
There’s also a quality issue. Pre-made copings are mass-produced to a price point — the profiles are often shallow, the finishes inconsistent, and the material is whatever was cheapest to source at scale. When we make your coping, we apply the profile to the exact tile or paver you’ve chosen, using proper machinery, and every piece is checked before it leaves. The finish is sharper, the edge is cleaner, and it actually matches the rest of your pool. You notice the difference the moment it’s laid.
Can you do crazy pave pool copings?
Yes. Crazy pave (tiles of irregular shapes) is actually one of our top specialities. The process starts with the natural irregular-shaped pavers you’ve chosen, and we cut and finish each piece individually to achieve the coping profile — typically a bullnose, dropface, or pencil finish along the pool edge. The irregular faces remain natural-looking, but the pool-side edge is finished cleanly and consistently.
What coping styles do you offer?
We offer 14+ profiles across three tiers: Standard (Bullnose, Half Bullnose, Bevelled, Pencil Top Only, Regular Pencil), Premium (Laminated Bullnose, Laminated Double Pencil, Mitred Dropface, Buttjoined Dropface), and Luxury (Double Penciled Buttjoined Dropface). What’s the difference between bullnose, dropface, and pencil?
Bullnose has a fully rounded edge — smooth, classic, the most popular for family pools. Dropface styles have a vertical front face that hangs below the pool wall, giving a more architectural, modern look. Pencil profiles have a small rounded bead detail, either on top only or on both top and front. Laminated versions bond two tiles together to create a thicker, more substantial edge. Can you handle complex pool shapes — kidney pools, L-shapes, 3-way corners?
That’s exactly what sets us apart. A lot of suppliers won’t touch complex geometry. We cut 2-way corners, 3-way corners, U-shaped walls, kidney curves — whatever the pool throws at us. We are happy to liaise with your builder or tiler to discuss and to ensure that the pool coping will suit the needs of your specific pool design. We are all about “Measure twice cut once.”
How do I measure my pool perimeter for a quote?
Run a tape measure along the top edge of every side that needs coping — including curves. Add it all up in linear metres. If you’re not sure, overestimate slightly; leftover pieces are useful for repairs down the track. You can enter your measurement directly into our online calculator and get a price on the spot. Our experts will tell you how many tiles or pavers you will need to provide to yield the right amount of coping pavers.
Can I supply my own tiles or pavers?
Absolutely. That’s the whole idea and we don’t even sell tiles (we can recommend a tile shop if need be). Our clients bring us tiles they’ve already purchased — or tiles left over from the pool surround — and we apply the coping profile to them. Just make sure the material is suitable for wet areas and the pieces are large enough for the profile you want.
What tile thickness do you work with?
We work with 10mm, 20mm, and 30mm thicknesses for most standard profiles. Some luxury profiles (like the Double Penciled Buttjoined Dropface) are available in 20mm only. If you have something unusual, ask us — we’ll tell you straight whether it’s doable.
How long does it take to get my copings made?
Turnaround depends on volume and complexity, but most standard jobs are ready within a few business days once we have your tiles and confirmed specs. Larger or more complex jobs (curves, 3-way corners, unusual profiles) take a little longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe when you request your quote. If you are truly in a hurry, no problem, we can sometimes arrange overtime.
Do you deliver, or do I pick up?
We are based in Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast. Depending on the job size sometimes it will fit the back of a 4WD or a ute. we have a forklift on-site to load/unload the pallet from a truck/a trailer or a ute. We can also arrange delivery through a local company.
